This program was created to train Maasai youth to be field guides, so that they can successfully integrate into the multi-million dollar industry that utilizes Maasailand for its prosperity, to compete in the job market while continuing to live in their communities. Maasai people have been denied employment in the industry on the pretext that they lacked relevant education.

2007 MFGTP Graduates
Alan Whitehead, an alum of the 2005 field studies program, created the MFGTP, under the guidance of Meitamei and the assistance of Maasai leadership. The first class, which lasted six months, was taught by Alan, and several Prescott College alumni. MFGTP graduated ten students in December, 2007. Diplomas for the Maasai graduates were awarded through Prescott College. This program already made a significant impact on the lives of many Maasai people; all ten of the students are now employed in the industry. The program is featured in an
article on the
Tourism Cares web site, which provided the first grant to facilitate MFGTP.
We are eager to continue this program when funding is made available. For more information, please contact Kate Cabot at 928-202-0131
